The Mass’s Different Ceremonial Modes

The Traditional Latin Mass is celebrated in several distinct ceremonial modes. The three following are the most common.

· Solemn High Mass—the Priest is assisted by a Deacon and Subdeacon and the Mass is chanted.

· Sung Mass—The Mass is chanted but the Priest is not assisted by any ministers. Incense may be used.

· Low Mass—The Mass is not chanted and the Priest is not assisted by any ministers.
