Marian Hymns for the Season – Sub Tuum Praesidium and Salve Regina

During this time after Pentecost, the Church closes her nightly prayer (from Trinity Sunday to Advent) with the Salve Regina at the end of Compline. As we recite that hymn publicly most days, we will conclude our daily Masses with another hymn, Sub Tuum Praesidium, the oldest Marian prayer antiphon. The oldest known version was discovered on an Egyptian papyrus from the 3rd century. Read more about this ancient prayer and practice singing it. Cards of this prayer can be found at the entrances of the church.
