A plenary indulgence is granted to the Christian faithful who, in a church or in an oratory, take part in a recitation or
solemn chant of the hymn Te Deum on the last day of the year (in thanksgiving to God for the favors received in the course of the entire year) and the hymn Veni Creator on the first day of the year (imploring divine assistance for the coming year). These are two distinct indulgences. On Tuesday, December 31, we will sing the Te Deum after 6:00 p.m. Mass. On Wednesday, January 1, we will sing the Veni Creator at the end of the 8:00 a.m. Mass and at the beginning of the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Copies of the prayers will be available at the church entrances to sing along or to recite outside of those public times. All the normal requirements for an indulgence apply: confession (three weeks before or after), Communion, prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions and renouncement of all attachment to sin.
