The purpose of the Baptism Preparation Program is to assist the pastor in preparing families for the Baptism of their children with follow-up in helping them to remain involved in the life of the parish. Parents of infants and young children are required to take part in the Baptismal Preparation Program. Godparents are also welcome to participate.
Older children and adults prepare for the sacrament through the Religious Education and RCIA Programs which are described below.
The Church baptizes infants and children at the request of a parent or parents (and in some cases, grand-parents) who give evidence and assurance that the Child will be raised in the faith and will progress in the practice of the faith to eventually receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Here at St. Mary we try to schedule baptisms at the regular Sunday Mass, usually on the first Sunday of the Month at the 10:00 AM Mass. We celebrate this opportunity to welcome new life into our parish community and to be able to reflect upon the call of our own Baptism. If the Sunday Mass time is not possible we are also happy to make other arrangements.
For infants and children under the age of five, parents are required to take part in the parish Baptismal Preparation Program here at the parish. God-parents are strongly encouraged to attend this program. Please remember that the role of God-parents in Baptism and Confirmation is to serve as an additional example of living the Christian Life. Therefore, God-parents should be baptized and confirmed as well as frequent participants in the Eucharist.
For more information, please call the parish office or email firstname.lastname@example.org
For children between the ages of five and seventeen, preparation for Baptism takes place as part of the child’s participation in the Religious Education Program of the parish.
